Terms of use
Last updated: September 2026
These terms govern the use of the PeerVio service by applicants, ambassadors, staff and institution administrators. By using the service, you accept these terms.
Who we are
PeerVio is a service operated from Portugal. For any question, write to contacto.peervio@gmail.com. The full details of the entity providing the service appear in the contract with each institution.
The service
PeerVio is a conversation platform that connects applicants with students and staff of an institution, integrated into that institution's website. The application or enrolment relationship is always between the applicant and the institution; PeerVio provides the chat and management tool.
Acceptance, changes and other documents
By using the service, you confirm that you accept these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service. We may update these terms; the date above shows the version in force and, when the change is important, we will let you know before it takes effect.
Our Privacy policy also applies. When you use the service through an institution, that institution is responsible for your applicant data and its privacy notice also applies to you; the link to it is available at sign-up or on the institution's website.
Minimum age
To use the service you must be 16 or older (or the highest minimum age of digital consent that applies in your country). By using the service, you confirm that you meet this requirement.
Your account
To send messages you create an account. You must give true information and keep it up to date. Choose a strong password and do not share it with anyone; do not use someone else's account. If you think your account is being used without authorisation, tell us immediately. You can use the same account to contact more than one participating institution and you can delete it at any time.
If you are an applicant
When you chat with an ambassador or staff member:
- the opinions ambassadors share are personal and reflect the moment they are given; important information for your decision (deadlines, costs, entry requirements) should be confirmed on the institution's website;
- the conversation is not advice, nor an offer or commitment from the institution;
- the institution may use the questions you ask, anonymously and without identifying you, to create frequently asked questions and other content;
- we may send you notifications by email (and on your device, if you turn them on) about new messages.
If you are an ambassador or staff member
To represent the institution on the service:
- you can only create an account by invitation from the institution, and your profile is only visible once it publishes it; the institution can edit or remove it at any time;
- the information you give must be true and not misleading, and you must not present yourself as an official spokesperson of the institution;
- by publishing your profile and your answers, you authorise the institution and PeerVio to display them on the service;
- the institution may read conversations in order to moderate them; if something inappropriate happens (offensive language, pressure, sexual content or clearly false information), report it to the institution's team.
If you are an institution administrator
You can only have an administrator account if you belong to the institution, and the account is personal and non-transferable. You are responsible for keeping ambassador profiles correct and not misleading, and for moderating conversations. The commercial relationship and the processing of data between the institution and PeerVio are governed by the pilot agreement and the data processing agreement that the institution signs with us.
Acceptable use
By using the service, you agree to:
- treat other people with respect, without harassment, discrimination or offensive language;
- not send spam, unsolicited advertising or illegal content;
- not impersonate anyone or try to access accounts or data that are not yours;
- not harm the operation of the service, not introduce viruses or malicious code, not launch attacks and not bypass security measures.
Content and moderation
You are responsible for what you write. The institution may read, reply in its own name, moderate and block conversations, to protect its community. PeerVio may remove content that breaches these terms and does not use the content of conversations for its own purposes; it only accesses it to provide technical support, ensure security, comply with the law or when the institution asks.
Intellectual property
The PeerVio brand, software and service design belong to PeerVio. You may not copy, reverse engineer, resell, embed in another site or create derivative works of the service without permission. The content you publish remains yours; by publishing it, you authorise its display within the service.
Availability
We make a reasonable effort to keep the service available and secure, but we may change, suspend or discontinue features, with notice when possible. We are not responsible for interruptions caused by external factors, such as internet, supplier or power failures.
Liability
The service is provided as is and as available, to the extent permitted by law. PeerVio is not responsible for application or admission decisions, which are for the institution, nor for the content of messages exchanged between users, nor for damage caused by viruses or by attacks we could not have prevented with reasonable care. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that the law does not allow to be excluded, nor the rights the law gives you as a consumer.
Links to other sites
The service may contain links to third-party sites, including the institution's. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content or policies.
Termination
You can delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close accounts that breach these terms or the law, and the institution may remove from the service the ambassadors and staff who represent it.
Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by Portuguese law. The courts of Lisbon have jurisdiction to resolve disputes, without prejudice to the rights that the law of your country of residence gives you as a consumer. If any provision of these terms is invalid, the others remain in force.
